I was born in Athens, somewhere between Vyrona and Kaisariani, on September 25, 1950. I grew up in Athens and I have almost no childhood memories of a village, although my father is from Kalamata and my mother is from Mani. I have never been to my mother’s village and I have only been to my dad’s village once, which I don’t remember at all. We were an average family. An average Athenian family. My father had a strong inclination towards learning but as a child he never got a chance due to poverty and political beliefs. But he carried the passion of learning within him and wanted the best for his children.
