A Sydney lad by background, writer/director Billy Cotsis has dedicated his life to documenting the worldwide Greek Diaspora. He has written three books, and overseen ten short film projects including an award winning satire short film (2015), and in 2017 for best Short Documentary at Planet Barcelona.
Billy Cotsis was first published as a journalist in 1995 in the Greek media newspaper, O Kosmos and since then he has featured in dozens of publications in 4 continents and is the author of over 200 articles. In 2013 he began developing short film projects and they are listed below. His first book came out in 2016, “Many faces of Hellenic Culture,” and that was followed by the wordy, “From Pyrrhus to Cyprus Forgotten and Remembered Hellenic Kingdoms, Territories, Entities & a Fiefdom.”
His book work focuses on visits to places from Alexandria to Ukraine. In 2019 he is part of a Balkan book and in 2020 will produce his first fiction book title.

In 2018 he visited the Greek speaking villages in Calabria and Apulia and will produce two documentaries based on that visit.
In 2019, he is preparing a pilot for a TV program on olives, and he is hopeful that in the near future he can make a feature film in Greece.
Between 2013 – 2018, Billy contributed to and was a proud member of the Greek Film Festival and the Greek Festival of Sydney. He is the current Deputy Chair of the Community Migrant Resource Centre.

He is happy tp have been recognised for his journalistic efforts with shortlisting to the 2016 Finalist, Cultural Diversity Story, NSW Premier’s Multicultural Media Awards & 2015 Finalist, Best Journalist of the Year, NSW Multicultural and Indigenous Awards.

An avid Manchester United and Canterbury Bulldogs fan, sport is something he enjoys but is not actually good at.
Billy is the proud younger brother of Sophie Cotsis, Member for Canterbury.
Billy is currently working on three documentaries on Magna Graecia, two pilot episodes for a tv show about olives in Greece and another short film comedy about olives.
