Poppy Anastasiadis-Mallianos was born in Constantinople. She graduated from the Zappeion girls’ school of Constantinople and enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts but could not complete the course due to the political instability at the time, so she opted studying Economics at the University. In 1971, Poppy and her family moved to Athens and in 1973 they migrated to Sydney, Australia. Athens had a special place in her heart, and in 1978 the family went back to Greece and lived in Athens until 1981, before moving back to Sydney.
Poppy’s mother instilled a love in her for poems from a very young age. She was teaching her how to recite poems and Poppy remembers writing poems and stories from the age of 12. Her work is published in the Greek press in Constantinople and Sydney. Some of her poems have been versified by composer, Petros Kyriakou.
Poppy is an active member of various associations in Sydney: EELKA (secretary for 8 years & president for 8 years), OEEGA and Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis.

- 2003 – Honorable mention for her short story “The return” in the literary competition organized by the SAE Oceania Culture Network
2003 – Commendation from the Angelideio Foundation of Melbourne for the poetry collection “Pieces of thought”
2009 – Commendation for her short story “Road without sun” in the literary competition organized EELKA.
2010 – Alexandros Angelidis Award from the Angelideion Foundation for the novel “The shadow of a dream”.
2014 – 2nd Prize for the short story “From the fringe” in the literary competition organized by the Hellenic-Australian Cultural Association of Melbourne.
2015 – 1st prize for the short story “The Lonely Woman”, by the Greek-Australian Cultural Association of Melbourne.
