Fotos was born on November 14, 1917 in Konitsa, Epirus, and when he was six years old his family migrated to Egypt, Cairo. After graduating from high school, he went to study in Belgium. At the outbreak of World War II he was enlisted in the army. Four and a half years later, he returned to Cairo where he stayed until 1949 and then migrated to Australia. He was a good friend of Chrysostomos Mandourides and they arrived in Australia at the same time, in 1949. For the full interview please refer to the Greek tab.
